Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in honour of Rosh Hashanah:
“As Jewish communities all over British Columbia prepare to ring in the year 5780 of the Hebrew calendar, I extend my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
“Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the Days of Awe – a 10-day period of renewal leading up to Yom Kippur. This is a time to think about the year that has passed, to gather with loved ones and to offer hope for the future.
“Rosh Hashanah reminds us all of the need to consider our actions and to commit to doing better in the year ahead. I urge all British Columbians to reflect on the values we hold dear as a province – acceptance, respect and inclusion. We can always do more to make this province, and the world, a better place.
“To everyone celebrating here in B.C., across Canada and around the globe: ‘Shanah Tovah u’Metukah!’ May you have a healthy, happy and hopeful new year.”
