Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement on Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas:
“Today, we join Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains all over the province and around the world to celebrate Diwali, Deepawali and Bandi Chhor Divas.
“Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, brings friends, families and communities together to celebrate the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. It is a time to rejoice through feasting, lighting of diyas, exchanging gifts and sweets, and spending time with friends and family.
“The festival also represents a time of year to help those in need. It reminds us to spread joy to the people around us and honour our shared values of respect, diversity and equality.
“On behalf of all British Columbians, I wish everyone a happy Diwali, Deepawali and Bandi Chhor Divas!”
