People travelling along Highway 1 between Leigh Road and West Shore Parkway will see immediate short-term safety improvements with the installation of more than a kilometre of centre median “picket” delineators.
The reflective delineators act as a clear and visible cue to help people in all driving conditions navigate the highway curve and will help to deter vehicles from crossing the centre line.
The ministry remains committed to expanding this section of highway to four lanes with median barriers and anticipates sharing more details on this project later in spring 2019.
Crews will begin installing the delineators during the week of March 4. In total, 250 delineators will be installed over a 1.25-kilometre section of Highway 1 between Leigh Road and West Shore Parkway.
The work is expected to be completed over three nights to avoid impact to traffic. During the construction phase, nightly lane closures will go into effect starting at 8 p.m. and ending by 6 a.m.
All travellers are reminded to obey construction signs and speed limits, and to watch for workers and traffic control personnel.
