Dredging activities will be conducted in the west arm of Kootenay Lake from Sept. 24 to Nov. 30, 2019, to ensure the long-term navigational safety of the Kootenay Lake ferry service.
During this time, dredging with heavy machinery will take place from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
After-hours dredging may be required between Oct. 21 and Nov. 4, but will be avoided if possible. Residents will be informed in advance if this is necessary.
This work is intended to improve the safety and efficiency of the ferry service. It will involve dredging at three shallow areas along the channel in order to increase the minimum water depth during low spring-water levels. Once complete, low water levels will no longer result in service disruptions.
The Province will continue to assess and monitor conditions as the operation progresses to ensure the safety of all ferry passengers, crew members and contractors. For real-time sailing updates, ferry users can visit: DriveBC.ca
