Construction starts this week to replace the existing culvert at Fur Thief Creek with a new two-lane, 26-metre-long bridge along Highway 97.
The new bridge, approximately 40 kilometres west of Chetwynd, is designed to modern standards to ensure people can continue to travel safely and efficiently along Highway 97. This structure is one of 10 bridge improvement projects underway or completed in the Chetwynd area under the 2016 Peace Flood Recovery Program.
During construction on this $6-million project, drivers will cross Fur Thief Creek via a two-lane detour. Drivers are advised to follow instructions of traffic control personnel and obey the construction zone speed limit.
The new Fur Thief Creek crossing on Highway 97 is expected to be complete in fall 2020.
The ministry has invested over $85 million on the extensive response and recovery work completed since June 2016, when flooding caused significant damage throughout the Peace region.
