A project to replace the lighting in and around three snowsheds is now complete, improving safety and visibility for people travelling along Highway 1 east of Revelstoke.
The previous halogen lights inside the Jack McDonald, Twin and Lanark snowsheds have been replaced with energy efficient LED lights. The new lighting system measures the ambient daytime lighting outside and replicates it inside the snowsheds.
This process will provide consistent lighting for drivers moving in and out of the snowsheds, improving visibility and reducing the potential for distractions.
Work also included the installation of light poles at the approaches and between the three snowsheds, and construction of a building on the southern wall of the Twin to control the lighting system.
Martech Electrical Systems Ltd. of Castlegar carried out the $7.15-million project, which spans approximately 1.8 kilometres, from the west entrance of the Jack McDonald Snowshed to the east entrance of the Lanark Snowshed.
The ministry appreciates the patience of all drivers during minor delays while this important work was carried out.
Quick Facts:
- A combined 576 LED lights were installed in the Jack McDonald, Twin and Lanark snowsheds.
- 18 new light poles were added to the snowshed approaches and between them, and six high pressure sodium lights were upgraded to LED.
