Recreational cyclists, bike commuters and pedestrians who use the Galloping Goose Regional Trail are advised that sections of the trail will be closed at the McKenzie interchange construction site from Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, through the end of November.
The first section of the Galloping Goose is expected to be closed from Oct. 28 to Nov. 2. This closure is between where the pedestrian overpass over Highway 1 meets the trail and where the trail meets Burnside Road. The closure includes the protected overpass over McKenzie Avenue.
During the week, pedestrians and cyclists using the Galloping Goose will detour onto Burnside Road via Grange Road on the west, and where Burnside meets the trail on the east.
Students who access area schools via the pedestrian overpass over Highway 1 can continue to do so and are asked to obey signage and the direction of traffic control personnel.
Detours will be clearly marked with signs. Traffic controllers will be present when necessary to ensure the safety of travellers and workers.
These closures will allow crews to finish paving the trail, while minimizing nightly disruptions to area residents. The closures and detour maps are posted to the project website: https://engage.gov.bc.ca/mckenzieinterchange/construction-updates//
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure thanks people for their patience while final construction of the trail is completed.
