Mount Lehman Road between Great Northern Avenue and the Abbotsford Airport has been upgraded and is open to traffic, increasing safety and efficiency for people who travel this route.
The project included widening Mount Lehman Road from two lanes to four, and adding new bike lanes and a sidewalk.
Crews constructed a dedicated southbound left-turn lane at the Mount Lehman Road-Simpson Road intersection and installed a signal at the Mount Lehman Road-Marshall Road intersection. The Marshall Road Extension was realigned to increase safety through this section. Lighting throughout the corridor was enhanced.
The sidewalk and four lanes between Marshall Road and Simpson Road opened Nov. 25. The new bike lanes, as well as four lanes south of Marshall Road, were completed in mid-November 2019.
The total cost of the project is $27.5 million, with the Government of Canada contributing nearly $8.4 million, the Province of B.C. providing more than $17.1 million and the City of Abbotsford supplying the remaining $2 million.
