The board of governors at Northern Lights College (NLC), members of the BC Government and Service Employee’s Union (BCGEU) Local 710 and the board of the Post-Secondary Employers’ Association have ratified an agreement within government’s mandate.
The Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate focuses on improving services for people and ensuring fair and affordable compensation.
The ratified agreement covers approximately 200 NLC support staff in information technology, administration, lab support, facilities, library support and other areas that help students.
The agreement includes:
- a three-year term (July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2022);
- general wage increases of 2%, 2% and 2%; and
- modest funds negotiated to support staff development and training, to address a shortage of skilled workers and to provide employees with skill upgrades to support more complex positions in the future.
The Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate supports government’s commitment to improving the services people count on, making life more affordable and investing in sustainable economic growth. The mandate is consistent with B.C.’s commitment to balanced budgets and sound fiscal management. There are nearly 240,000 public-sector employees covered by tentative or ratified agreements reached under the mandate.
