Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in celebration of Lunar New Year, beginning Saturday, Jan. 25:
“Today marks the beginning of Lunar New Year celebrations as people around the world welcome the Year of the Rat. Clever and quick thinking, the rat stands for hard-earned wealth and a quiet, peaceful way of life.
“Lunar New Year is a time when families come together, share a meal, exchange gifts and continue traditions that have been passed down for generations.
“It is also an opportunity to celebrate British Columbia’s rich diversity and honour the many contributions made by the people and cultures who, together, form our province.
“To all the British Columbians celebrating Lunar New Year – including people from Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Singaporean and many other communities – I wish you a prosperous Year of the Rat. May this year be one of good luck, good health and great prosperity.
“Kung Hei Fat Choi! Gong Xi Fa Cai! Saehae bok mani badeuseyo! Chúc mừng năm mới!”
