The temporary access road for residents is now open at Old Fort Road.
Traffic control personnel will be in place 24/7 to ensure safe movement on the access road.
Construction equipment, maintenance contractor staff and geotechnical personnel remain on site, as assessments and work are ongoing. Construction will continue through the weekend to provide a more all-weather road surface.
Construction of the temporary access road began yesterday, once slide movement had stabilized.
The ministry has been diligent in efforts to restore access to Old Fort Road ever since ground movement was detected. For safety reasons, the road was closed to all but emergency vehicles in late June.
Although the area around the new access road is stable, the slide area itself remains unsafe, and people are reminded to keep clear. The ministry continues to work with its partners and the community in monitoring the situation.
