Drivers are reminded that Highway 4 at Kennedy Hill will be closed from 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, to 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, to allow for a permanent slope repair at the temporary bridge site.
During this 24-hour closure, crews will remove the temporary single-lane bridge and repair the slope that was damaged during blasting in January. This work is necessary for blasting to continue at this project site.
At 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, the corridor will reopen to single-lane alternating traffic, allowing commercial vehicles, RVs and other larger vehicles to safely move through the corridor.
The regular closure schedule will also resume on the evening of Sunday, Feb. 23. Drivers are encouraged to check DriveBC for the Kennedy Hill project closure schedule, along with the most up-to-date information on road conditions.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure thanks motorists and residents on both sides of the closure for their patience. When completed later this year, the Highway 4 - Kennedy Hill Safety Improvement Project will create a safer and more reliable connection between Port Alberni and the west coast of Vancouver Island.
