Drivers are advised that beginning Tuesday, April 21, 2020, Quesnel-Hydraulic Road will be closed at kilometre 20.3 to all traffic between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. due to ongoing slide activity.
Significant land instability has been observed at this location. Out of an abundance of caution, the road will be closed indefinitely during these hours until geotechnical engineers can determine that a full-time reopening is safe for travellers.
Prior to re-opening every morning at 6 a.m., Emcon Services will investigate the site and make any necessary repairs to ensure the road is safe.
A detour via 2700 Road and 500 Road is currently being prepared to ensure a local route remains open to the public 24 hours per day. The detour is actively being graded and patrolled, with additional gravel being added in some areas to ensure the route is in good condition. The detour will add approximately 30 minutes of travel time.
Drivers are advised to continue checking DriveBC for the most up-to-date highway travel information, as the status of Quesnel-Hydraulic road will be continuously updated: DriveBC.ca
This traffic management plan will be closely monitored on an ongoing basis and may be altered as the condition of the road changes.
