Resurfacing work will get underway on Sunday, May 31, 2020, on Highway 1 between the Willingdon Avenue interchange and the Gaglardi Way interchange, making this route a safer and smoother ride for all motorists.
The $7.4-million project includes resurfacing Highway 1 in both directions, including the shoulders and the on- and off-ramps of the connecting interchanges. The paving work is expected to finish this summer. The work is weather dependent, therefore the dates are subject to change.
To minimize delays for drivers, work will be done during the night hours with a minimum of two lanes open to traffic through the work zone. While work is underway, the speed limit will be reduced to 70 km/h through the project site. However, during non-working hours, the highway, including ramps and interchanges, will function at normal operating speeds with all lanes open.
A contract for the work has been awarded to All Roads Construction Ltd. The ministry is working closely with the contractor and WorkSafeBC to ensure health and safety are maintained for all workers on site.
B.C.’s provincial health officer has directed construction employers to take all necessary precautions to minimize the risks of COVID-19 transmission and illness to themselves and their employees. This includes ensuring workers maintain physical distance with a minimum of two metres apart from each other in the course of their duties, as well as during breaks.
Drivers are advised to watch for nightly lane closures and obey all traffic control personnel, construction speed limits and signs. For the most up-to-date highway travel information, check @DriveBC on Twitter or visit: DriveBC.ca
