Premier John Horgan has released the following statement regarding the postponement of the demolition of the Lower Post residential school:
“We honour the decision by Deputy Chief Harlan Schilling and the Daylu Dena community in Lower Post to prioritize the well-being of the community and to reschedule the demolition of the residential school.
“As soon as the community decides when to reschedule this important ceremony, I will be honoured to accept their invitation to attend the demolition of the Lower Post residential school – a building that should have been removed years ago.
“To walk the path of reconciliation, we must acknowledge historic truths and their continued impacts on generations of Indigenous families.”
