Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in celebration of Pakistan’s 75th Independence Day:
“I am happy to commemorate Pakistan’s 75th Independence Day, marking the start of its 75th year as an independent nation.
“At midnight between Aug. 14 and 15, 1947, Pakistan gained independence from British rule and became an independent country.
“Pakistan celebrates Independence Day on Aug. 14, as do Pakistani communities in British Columbia and around the world.
“For generations, people have emigrated from Pakistan to British Columbia and have enriched our province’s culture immeasurably. They make significant contributions to British Columbia every day.
“On behalf of all British Columbians, I offer best wishes to all those celebrating Pakistan’s Independence Day, here in British Columbia and around the world.”
