Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in honour of Rosh Hashanah:
“Throughout B.C., Jewish communities are preparing to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the 10 Days of Awe. As we turn the page to mark the 5,782nd year of the Hebrew calendar, there is much to reflect on and much to look forward to in the year ahead.
“In these challenging times, Rosh Hashanah inspires feelings of hope, a promise of new beginnings and an opportunity to celebrate safely with close family and friends. While gatherings to mark the beginning of this new year may once again look different, know that the spirit of the holiday remains strong and unchanged.
“As we begin the Days of Awe and the period of renewal leading up to Yom Kippur, let us recommit to doing all we can to keep our loved ones and communities safe.
“On behalf of British Columbians, I send best wishes to everyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah. May this new year bring health, peace and prosperity for all who celebrate these High Holy Days.
“L’shanah tovah u’metukah!”
