Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement on the occasion of Diwali, the Festival of Lights:
“Here in B.C. and all around the world, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains will celebrate Diwali today, also known as the Festival of Lights.
“For millions of people, this is a time for contemplation and prayer; a time to think about our responsibility to help those around us; and a time to celebrate the triumph of good over evil, and hope over despair.
“Reflections on the power of knowledge and light are as timely as they are important. We have been through a lot together recently, but I believe our best and brightest days are ahead of us.
“Science and vaccines are making it possible to come together to light diyas and celebrate safely with family again. I want to thank everyone for doing their part to get us to this place.
“Fighting the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that we are strongest when we look out for each other. By continuing to work together, we will build a better and more inclusive future – for everyone.
“On behalf of the Government of British Columbia, I wish you and your family a happy and healthy Diwali.”
