Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement on Guru Nanak Gurpurab:
“Today marks the 552nd anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, founder of the Sikh religion. This is a time of celebration for Sikhs in British Columbia and around the world.
“Guru Nanak Dev Ji challenged discrimination and shared a central message of equality for all, regardless of gender, religion or background. We can all learn from and live by the values of unity, selflessness and service that are embodied within his teachings.
“On this important day, we also recognize the significant contributions that Sikh Canadians have made to British Columbia. B.C. is home to more Sikhs than anywhere else in Canada, with well-established communities throughout the province.
“On behalf of all British Columbians, I extend my warmest wishes for a happy Guru Nanak Gurpurab!”
