Drivers are notified that the Keith Road underpass on Highway 1 will partially open to the public on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021.
Two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, on the existing Fern Street underpass will be shifted to the new Keith Road underpass. Access to the new underpass will be via Keith Road and Mount Seymour Parkway.
The eastbound Fern Street on-ramp to Highway 1 remains temporarily closed. Drivers can continue to access Highway 1 eastbound via the new Mountain Highway eastbound on-ramp at the Mountain Highway interchange or via the eastbound on-ramps at the Main Street/Dollarton interchange.
The new, five-lane Keith Road underpass will fully open to traffic this spring. Once completed, it will provide an improved municipal connection with increased safety and reduced traffic interruption for North Shore residents between Keith Road and Mount Seymour parkway. It will feature a four-metre wide multi-use path to support active transportation commuters.
This work is part of the Highway 1 Lower Lynn Improvement project. The project will significantly shorten commute times and improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists on the North Shore.
Travellers are asked to follow signs and obey posted speed limits.
