Drivers are advised Highway 16 is currently single-lane alternating traffic between East Bay Road and Lloyd Drive, due to a landslide that has undercut a section of the highway.
The slide occurred due to water flowing from the adjacent bank and pooling under the road. The water has been redirected and work is underway on repairs. Traffic is being shifted in order to safely access the undercut location.
Ministry geotechnical engineers, operations staff and maintenance crews are stabilizing and repairing the site.
Information about when the road may resume normal two-way vehicle traffic is unavailable. The ministry is working to resolve this issue as quickly and safely as possible, and apologizes for any inconvenience until it is resolved.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, traffic control devices and flag persons.
