Work is underway on Highway 17 in Delta to repair a section of the highway that has settled since construction in 2013.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has been monitoring affected sections of Highway 17 for the past several years, and some levelling work has been done to smooth out the dips in the road.

Settlement has subsided to the point that long-term repairs can begin in the first of the three sections. The other two sections will go through similar repairs when settlement has stopped.

Work will take place on Highway 17 in both directions between the 80th Street connector and Highway 91 connector. The existing road surface will be removed so the road base can be rebuilt. The section of highway will then be resurfaced.

A $1.3-million contract for the repairs has been awarded to Winvan Paving Ltd. With favourable weather, work is expected to be completed by July 23, 2021.

Highway 17 will be reduced to one lane in each direction in the project area for the duration of the project. Drivers should expect minor delays. Work will begin in the westbound lanes.

The work is almost immediately adjacent to the Highway 91/17 project. The ministry and its contractors will work to minimize traffic disruption between the two projects. For updates, drivers should check: www.DriveBC.ca
