Crews will soon begin work on two Ladysmith intersections to improve safety on the Trans-Canada Highway and to improve traffic flow for those travelling through the area.
At the South Davis Road and Baker Road intersection, left turns onto Highway 1 will be restricted. Motorists on South Davis Road wanting to go north on Highway 1 can access the existing signalized intersection at North Davis Road via local roads.
Similarly, motorists on Baker Road wanting to go south on Highway 1 can access the signal at North Davis Road and use local roads to gain re-entry onto the highway.
Traffic disruptions for construction at South Davis Road and Baker Road are expected to be minor and short.
To accommodate the potential for increased traffic volumes at North Davis Road, the ministry has plans for future enhancements to increase the safety and efficiency of the intersection. This work, planned for spring 2022, includes:
- optimizing the signal timing at the North Davis Road and Highway 1 signal to increase green time for the left-turn movement; and
- relocating the marked pedestrian crosswalk from the north side of the intersection to the south side.
The ministry is completing this work based on recommendations from the 2019 Ladysmith corridor review study.
