Organics Infrastructure Program funding recipients

Kwadacha Nation (Tsek’ene)

  • The new facility will be the first community compost system. It will process organic waste from all households, work camps and community buildings, and from the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George landfill. Class A compost will be used in the community gardens and greenhouse to support the Nation’s food security.
  • The facility will process 182 tonnes per year of organic waste, reducing 1,857 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent emissions by 2034.
  • Estimated project total: $449,909
  • Program funding: $299,940

Heiltsuk Tribal Council (Haíɫzaqv)

  • This project will upgrade and expand the community’s current compost system to provide the additional capacity needed for 550 dwellings and 20 community buildings within the Nation. It will produce Class A compost for the community.
  • The system will process 312 tonnes per year of organic waste, reducing 3,813 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions by 2034.
  • Estimated project total: $457,597
  • Program funding: $305,064
