Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in honour of Passover:
“At sundown tonight, Jewish people in British Columbia and all over the world will celebrate the start of Passover.
“Around Seder tables across the province, family and friends will safely gather again to share food, drink wine, sing and recite from the Haggadah, retelling the inspirational tale of the Exodus when God delivered Moses and Israelites from bondage in ancient Egypt.
“At a time when the world faces war and other great challenges, the Israelites’ journey from slavery to the Promised Land is a timely reminder of what people can overcome when they work together.
“It is a powerful and hopeful story of emancipation and of freedom prevailing over tyranny against tremendous odds. It is also a testament to the resilience and strength the Jewish people have shown throughout history in the face of oppression.
“To everyone in the Jewish community beginning their celebration tonight, I wish you and your family a happy and healthy Passover – Chag Pesach Sameach.”
