Premier David Eby has issued the following statement on Diwali, the Festival of Lights:
“Today, B.C. and other parts of the world will light up as people celebrate Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights.
“Diwali is a sacred time for Hindus, Sikhs and Jains as they celebrate the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. To mark the occasion, many people will light rows of candles, diya lamps and lanterns in their homes, temples and communities.
“In B.C., many community organizations are hosting family-friendly Diwali festivals that are open to everyone. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Diwali and enjoy some traditional music, dance, art and food.
“Diwali is a time of community, connection and culture. It also reminds us that the many cultural communities in B.C. make our province strong, vibrant and bright.
“Happy Diwali to all who are celebrating.”
