Premier David Eby has issued the following statement marking Eid al-Fitr:
“Muslims in British Columbia and around the world will gather today to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan. Family and friends will enjoy a delicious meal together at the end of a month dedicated to reflection, prayer and fasting.
“The Islamic values of commitment to faith and charitable giving are central to Eid al-Fitr and reflected in people coming together to worship and give back to their communities.
“This year, some will mark this important day in more sombre tones as a reflection of grief over the devastation and tragic loss of life in the Middle East. These difficult days remind us that we are stronger because of the diversity of our communities and province. B.C. is home to Muslims from every corner of the globe, and we all benefit from the important contributions they make.
“I wish a joyful Eid al-Fitr to all who celebrate.
“Eid Mubarak!”
