Premier David Eby has issued the following statement marking B.C. Day:
“B.C. Day is a great time to celebrate all that we enjoy about living in this amazing place we call home.
“Whether you’re getting out to do some camping over the weekend, spending some time on the water or on the beach, or simply relaxing and enjoying the company of your family and friends, B.C. Day is an opportunity to reflect on the place that we call home.
“In British Columbia, diversity is our strength. B.C. has been the destination of choice for generations of people immigrating from around the world, bringing with them languages and culture that enrich the fabric of our province.
“We share this beautiful land with First Nations who have lived here for millennia, and we are committed to continuing our work with Indigenous Peoples on reconciliation and implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. We’re stronger working together to build a brighter future for everyone.
“Once again, B.C. Day is marked by increased wildfire activity and drought throughout our province. We will continue to support British Columbians living with the threat of wildfire and the people facing the uncertainty of possible evacuation.
“As always, we are profoundly grateful for the firefighters, first responders and community organizers who are on the front lines of wildfire and emergency response. Their professionalism and sacrifice exemplify the values we cherish in this province.
“I wish everyone across the province a safe and happy B.C. Day.”
