What to know about B.C.’s life-sciences sector
  • B.C. is home to the fastest-growing life-sciences sector in Canada with more than 2,000 companies employing approximately 20,000 people.
  • Companies such as STEMCELL Technologies, Canada’s largest biotech company that develops cell culture media, cell separation systems, instruments and other reagents, are a key part of the success.
  • Internationally recognized hospitals and research institutions, such as BC Cancer, St. Paul’s Hospital and Genome BC, as well as world-class post-secondary institutions, such as the University of British Columbia, partner to create a dynamic and collaborative network for researchers and life-sciences companies.
  • Others such as AbCellera Biologics, Aspect Biosystems, Acuitas Therapeutics, Zymeworks and Xenon Pharmaceuticals are strong examples of home-grown B.C. companies, each impacting the thriving life-sciences ecosystem.
