Premier David Eby has issued the following statement marking Yom Kippur:
“Tonight, Jewish communities in British Columbia and around the world will observe the beginning of Yom Kippur. At sunset, people will begin a period of fasting, self-reflection and prayer, marking the end of the 10 Days of Awe that began with Rosh Hashanah.
“Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the Jewish year and is a solemn time for atonement and forgiveness.
“Jewish Canadians are facing increasing acts of violence and antisemitism, and our government condemns these acts of hate. We are committed to ensuring that British Columbia is safe and welcoming for people of all faiths and backgrounds. Today and every day, our government stands against hate and discrimination in all its forms.
“I wish everyone observing Yom Kippur a Tzom Kal and a G’mar Chatimah Tovah.”
