Niki Sharma, Attorney General, has released the following statement in celebration of Taiwanese Heritage Month:
“July is Taiwanese Heritage Month in British Columbia, an opportunity to celebrate the vibrant culture, history and contributions of the Taiwanese community to our province. Last year marked the first official proclamation of Taiwanese Heritage Month in B.C., and we are proud to continue this important tradition this year.
“People of Taiwanese heritage have called B.C. home for generations and have played a vital role in shaping our province. Taiwan’s story is one of resilience, innovation and cultural richness stretching back millennia. The thousands of people who identify as Taiwanese in B.C. today infuse our society with their deep respect for heritage, community and democratic values.
“British Columbians are fortunate to experience the vibrancy of the Taiwanese culture through their cuisine, festivals, music, literature and visual arts. People of Taiwanese heritage have enriched British Columbia through entrepreneurship, philanthropy, innovation, education, public service, health care, the arts and community leadership.
“This Taiwanese Heritage Month, I urge everyone in B.C. to explore everything this beautiful culture has to offer and recognize the many ways they continue to strengthen our province. By learning more about each other, we can make sure that our cultural diversity remains a source of strength.
“Happy Taiwanese Heritage Month!”
