Premier David Eby has issued the following statement in recognition of Qingming:
“Each year on Qingming, members of Chinese communities throughout British Columbia and around the world visit tombs and cemeteries to sweep them free of dust and debris, light incense, and leave flowers, food and other offerings in remembrance and honour of their ancestors.
“This important spring festival, which has been marked for more than 2,500 years, is known by many names, including Tomb Sweeping Day and Ancestors’ Day. This ancient tradition reflects the deep reverence for family and ancestors within Chinese communities.
“We wish peace and good health on all those who are honouring their ancestors this Qingming.”
