Premier David Eby has issued the following statement marking Rosh Hashanah:
“Tonight at sunset, Jewish people throughout British Columbia and around the world will welcome Rosh Hashanah and the start of a new year.
“Rosh Hashanah is a time to reflect on the past year and look ahead with hope. As the shofar sounds and families and friends gather to share festive meals and celebrate cherished traditions, Jewish communities mark the beginning of the High Holidays with wishes for a sweet, healthy and peaceful year.
“Jewish people have helped shape British Columbia for generations and continue to strengthen our province through their leadership, service and contributions.
“As Jewish communities celebrate the new year, we also recognize the troubling rise in antisemitism here in B.C. and around the world. We condemn antisemitism in all its forms and remain committed to building a province where everyone can live, worship and celebrate their traditions free from hate.
“To everyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah, I wish you and your loved ones a year filled with peace, good health and new beginnings.
“L’shanah tovah u’metukah!”
