The countdown to the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games is on. On Aug. 5 the opening ceremonies will begin. The 2011 Western Canada Summer Games will be held in Kamloops from
Aug. 5 - Aug.14.
Quick facts:
- The Province has invested $1.75 million to assist the Kamloops Host Society with the Games.
- The Games will bring together approximately 2,100 athletes, coaches and managers for 10 days of high calibre competition. Sports include: Artistic Gymnastics, Athletics, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Canoeing, Cycling, Field Hockey, Golf, Rowing, Rugby, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball (Indoor and Beach) and Wrestling. Team BC will field a Team of 417 athletes and coaches and 21 volunteer Mission Staff.
- The Western Canada Summer Games are attended by the four western provinces and three territories - British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and the Yukon Territory. The Games were first staged in 1975. BC hosted in 1993 in Abbotsford. The next Games will be held in Alberta in 2015.
