Rick Hansen launched a cross-country relay in Cape Spear, Newfoundland on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, to mark the 25th anniversary of his Man in Motion Tour.
“One man in motion will become many in motion as thousands help to recreate his famous journey." Premier Christy Clark said in a video message. "We look forward to welcoming the relay home when it crosses from Alberta into Valemount, BC on March 19 and will keep on celebrating until it concludes."
7,000 participants from across Canada who will walk, wheel or run in the nine-month, 12,000 kilometre Relay that retraces the route of Hansen’s original Tour. It will touch over 600 communities.
The relay is expected to cross the Alberta/B.C. border on March 19, 2012, and end in Vancouver on May 22, 2012.
