I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the people of Ugandan descent as they celebrate the Golden Jubilee of their independence as a nation and country.
It was 50 years ago today on October 9th that Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, became its own country. Since then, Ugandans have much to be thankful for as they reflect on their accomplishments as a nation.
It's a time to reflect on the achievements made over the past 50 years and look forward to some of the challenges that lie ahead in the pursuit of democracy, economic prosperity, social justice and equality for every man, woman and child.
Take this time to come together with family and friends to honour your identity, preserve your heritage and celebrate your independence.
As Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism, I extend my very best wishes for a happy Ugandan Independence Day!
