VICTORIA - As Rosh Hashanah ushers in the first of the High Holy Days or Yamim Nora'im, I would like to extend my best wishes to all those celebrating the Jewish New Year.
Rosh Hashana will mark a turning point. In households and synagogues across the world, families will come together to reflect on the year that was and look ahead to the year that will be.
It is a time to renew our commitment to be a better human being, to repent for our mistakes, to reconcile with others and to strive for self-improvement.
It's an opportunity for all of us to consider improving ourselves and the world around us.
This is a wonderful example of the tremendous contributions the Jewish community has made to enrich the diversity of Canadian society, one that all British Columbians can take pride in celebrating.
As the sun sets on September 16, whether you're listening to the sound of the shofar or eating an apple dipped in honey, I wish you and your families a sweet new year.
Shana Tova!
