We’re making history today

As we gather, we are mindful of

• the tens of thousands of people forced from their homes
• thousands more fighting fires
• who have opened their homes and hearts to evacuees
• people across Canada offering to help
• Canadians coming together

We’re thinking of them first and foremost today.

It’s an honour to be your Premier

I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the people who helped me along the way

Rather than say to people you’re on your own, fend for yourself

Our government will embody that spirit

We’re going to make life better for people and deliver the change people voted for

• Together with the Green Caucus
• I will lead a new kind of government
• that listens and cares
• not just when we can’t ignore people any longer
• but always, every day

This is my message to British Columbians:

• We will work hard
• and follow through on our commitments
• and deliver a government that works for you

Today and every day, people will be at the heart of everything we do

• I’ve directed each and every minister to get to work:
  • giving relief for families from growing costs and fees
  • ensuring better services for people – like schools for our kids and shorter waitlists for health care
  • creating good jobs, that sustain you, and more economic opportunity for more people

We need to get to work on the problems that matter most to people

Starting with:

• doing everything we can to help communities and support emergency responders battling wildfires across our interior
• getting schools ready for September so kids get the smaller classes and additional resources they have been waiting for
• quick action on the overdose crisis to save lives
• and fighting for B.C. jobs in the softwood lumber dispute 

We’re going to work for our people and our province

Because everyone should benefit from our resources, economy and environment

And no one should be left behind

There’s a lot of work ahead of us and it's going to take time to fix the problems created over 16 years

We have:

• The team
• The plan
• The commitment to get it done

Working together, we’re going to build a better B.C. for everyone
