HOPE - Motorists are advised that the Coquihalla Highway 5 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, for helicopter avalanche control work to ensure the safety of the travelling public.
Over the past three days, high winds and new snow have continued to fill the avalanche paths. This planned closure will allow crews to conduct helicopter avalanche control to reduce the snowpack in avalanche paths and then clean up any deposits that reach the highway.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure thanks the travelling public for their patience during the closure.
Detours are available via Highway 1 at Kamloops, Highway 1 or 3 at Hope and Highway 8 and Highway 1 at Merritt.
The schedule of this control work may be revised based on weather conditions. Please check drivebc.ca for the most up-to-date highway information and for tips on safe winter driving preparedness.
