B.C. companies receive support for clean energy projects

The following projects are receiving support from the Innovative Clean Energy Fund:

  • Powertech Labs – $125,000 to advance medium and heavy-duty fuelling for gaseous hydrogen vehicles. This project aims to remove barriers to deploying hydrogen refuelling infrastructure for the large-scale decarbonization of Canada’s transportation sector by advancing critical technical requirements for hydrogen fuelling testing facilities and fuelling infrastructure design and standards.
  • Ionomr Innovations – $2,357,000 for alkaline anion-exchange membranes, creating a platform for efficient and cost-effective clean energy generation, storage and advanced wastewater treatment. Ionomr’s membranes can be used across the clean tech sector and have significant environmental and economic advantages.
  • Clir Renewables Inc. – $1,494,000 for software to increase energy production at windfarms. The project involves developing and demonstrating Clir’s automated windfarm software optimization suite. Clir Renewables estimates it can improve power production at a facility by 2% to 5%.
  • Canfor Pulp Ltd. – $2,000,000 for a project that will convert forestry byproduct and wood waste to renewable energy for the company’s Prince George kraft pulp mill business. Once successfully demonstrated in B.C., the technology will then be licensed for Canadian and international use to help reach climate sustainability goals globally.
  • Ekona Power – $375,000 for its tri-generation pyrolysis process, which is a combination of technologies that can meet the requirements for producing low-cost, low carbon hydrogen by maximizing the energetic value of carbon and hydrogen found in natural gas feedstock.
  • Sanctuary Cognitive Systems – $28,000 for an energy efficiency and conservation project to quantify energy savings and reduction in carbon emissions that can result from developing hybrid artificial intelligence systems and deploying an electrified, autonomous workforce.
  • Global Energy Horizons – $40,000 for a project with CleanBerry, an energy and natural resource company, that will assess viability of the Pemberton region to build a pilot plant to test and demonstrate carbon dioxide removal and hydrogen production technology.
  • RecycleSmart – $606,000 for a project to develop a multi sensor-driven cloud-based system that gathers data from commercial and industrial waste and recycling bins. The project will provide analysis to optimize roadside recycling service.
  • CryoLogistics – $1,439,000 for a project to develop a carbon dioxide refrigeration technology to reduce emissions in the high-value cold freight transportation sector. This technology uses liquid carbon dioxide to provide controlled cooling power within an insulated pallet container and will replace diesel refrigeration units, resulting in emission reductions, waste reductions and cost savings for high-value products, such as pharmaceuticals and seafood.
