Cliff Manning of Guyishton Woodlot Ltd. is being recognized by the Province of B.C. with a Minister’s Award for Innovation and Excellence in Woodlot Management for the North Area.

With the help of a $1.25-million grant from the Forest Enhancement Society of BC, the Cheslatta Carrier Nation is rehabilitating tree stands that were severely damaged by wildfires in 2018 and re-establishing productive forest ecosystems.

The rehabilitation of Crown land impacted by wildfire suppression activities in the Nadina Natural Resource District has been underway since September 2018 and will continue into 2020.

The Lakes District Family Enhancement Society is getting $99,947 to implement the Community Food Hub Transition project under the special circumstances provision of the BC Rural Dividend.

An area restriction order is now in effect for Crown land in the vicinity of the Nadina Lake wildfire.

The Government of British Columbia is making changes to give rural communities additional economic and land management opportunities, by allowing them to increase the size of their community forest.

Smoke originating from large wildfires south of Vanderhoof and west of Quesnel has been visible in the Nadina Fire Zone and in areas around Burns Lake today. This smoke is expected to linger in the area for the next few days.

The BC Wildfire Service responded to six new wildfires in the Northwest Fire Centre today, the majority of which are now extinguished or in “patrol” status.

The BC Wildfire Service is planning a series of controlled burns in the Nadina Fire Zone, between Sept. 17 and Oct. 15, 2015, weather permitting.
