A new affordable housing project in Chilliwack has taken another step forward, with a groundbreaking ceremony taking place for the 80-unit development at 45603 Yale Rd.

Safety and efficiency improvements are being planned for the Lickman Road and Highway 1 interchange in Chilliwack, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone announced while speaking to the Chilliwack Rotary Club.

Families in the Chilliwack school district will no longer pay fees for students riding school buses within their schools’ catchment area and will also benefit from improved transportation services thanks to $329,456 in funding under the new provincial Student Transportation Fund.

Major construction will begin in early October on the project to replace the Vedder Bridge and upgrade the Vedder/Chilliwack Lake Road intersection.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is starting work soon on a $3-million resurfacing project for a 10-kilometre stretch of Chilliwack Lake Road.
