The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, in collaboration with the BC Wildfire Service, plans to complete a 23-hectare fuel management project around the community of Dease Lake throughout the spring and summer of 2019 to help reduce wildfire risks.  

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to four holdover fires in the Cassiar fire zone.

The BC Wildfire Service would like the public to be aware of smoky conditions on Highway 37 from Wheeler Lake to the Yukon border and along the Alaska Highway, due to the Blue River wildfire.

The BC Wildfire Service is advising the public that smoke may be visible from the Alaska Highway and Highway 37, due to wildfires burning in the Blue River and Ne’Ah’ Conservancy areas of northern British Columbia.

The Red River wildfire, located about 65 kilometres southeast of Watson Lake, is now estimated to have burned over 2,000 hectares. No structures are threatened at this time.

Smoke from several lightning-caused wildfires may drift into communities in northwest British Columbia over the coming week.

Crews from the Wildfire Management Branch are responding to a new wildfire in the northwest corner of the province. It currently covers about 12 hectares near Kakiddi Creek, 25 kilometres west of Iskut.

The Wildfire Management Branch responded to three new wildfires over the weekend in the Cassiar Fire Zone, located in the extreme northwest corner of the province.

Residents of Dease Lake, Atlin, Telegraph Creek and Iskut may see smoke in their communities as a result of large wildfires burning in the Yukon and Alaska.

Communities within the Cassiar Fire Zone will continue to see smoke as a result of a large wildfire burning near Mess Creek, east of Mount Edziza Provincial Park.
