Residents in B.C.’s northwestern communities are invited to share their thoughts on the future of two northern highways through a survey that will inform ongoing planning for the corridors.

Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement on his trip to Tahltan Territory:

A recently established conservancy in a remote region of northwestern B.C. now has an Indigenous name rooted in Tahltan Nation heritage, tradition, culture and history. 

People who rely on the Dease Lake Airport for access to health care, emergency services, and those who rely on transportation for work, including the mining sector, will benefit from $9 million in StrongerBC economic recovery funding for airport upgrades.

Lakes District Maintenance Inc. will continue being responsible for highway maintenance in Service Area 28 (Stikine), which includes the provincial roadways for Atlin, Cassiar and Dease Lake and highways 2 and 37.

The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, in collaboration with the BC Wildfire Service, plans to complete a 23-hectare fuel management project around the community of Dease Lake throughout the spring and summer of 2019 to help reduce wildfire risks.  

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to four holdover fires in the Cassiar fire zone.

Students, teachers and staff at Dease Lake school in the Stikine school district will benefit from $110,160 in provincial School Enhancement Program funding.

Two projects to improve Highway 37 near Dease Lake are now completed, announced Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone.

The BC Wildfire Service would like the public to be aware of smoky conditions on Highway 37 from Wheeler Lake to the Yukon border and along the Alaska Highway, due to the Blue River wildfire.
