An additional eastbound passing lane will be constructed along Highway 3 west of Fernie, providing a passing opportunity for motorists and increasing safety.

Elk Valley residents will be growing more local food in 2017 as the Wildsight Elk Valley branch begin their “Keeping Food Real” project.

As B.C. experiences some of its strongest tourism growth in years, with a record number of international visitors during the first half of the year, Fernie is receiving $303,127 from the Province’s Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) to support its tourism industry.

Fernie will receive a total of $383,316 for projects that help support tourism infrastructure and amenities, Bill Bennett, MLA for Kootenay East announced today.

As we head into summer, you may want to include Fernie in your travel plans.

Fernie is expected to become a hub for cross-country skiing in B.C. This comes as the Fernie Nordic Society opens the Elk Valley Nordic Centre near Mount Fernie Provincial Park.

To highlight how easy it is for families to get the new $1,200 BC Training and Education Savings Grant, Education Minister Don McRae and East Kootenay MLA Bill Bennett visited the East Kootenay Community Credit Union to discuss the new grant with one of the credit union's financial planning experts and a local parent.
