With progress made over the winter on the Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4 project, the full closure of Highway 1 through the Kicking Horse Canyon will be limited to five days in spring 2023.  

Drivers will return to Highway 1 through the Kicking Horse Canyon ahead of schedule at 6 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022.

As many as nine eligible British Columbians will get skills training to prepare them for employment in the trucking industry in the Columbia Valley.

To improve the safety, reliability and capacity of Highway 1, construction of a new bridge crossing at Quartz Creek will soon begin, benefiting people who travel on the Trans-Canada Highway near Golden.

Crews are doing investigative fieldwork in the Kicking Horse Canyon over the next several weeks as part of the preparation for major highway improvements to begin late this year.

The fourth and final phase of the Highway 1 Kicking Horse Canyon project is moving forward with an invitation for bidders to submit their qualifications to design and build the project.

Construction has begun on a project to improve safety and increase capacity by expanding the Trans-Canada Highway to four lanes, between Donald and Forde Station Road, near Golden.
