Community-based adult literacy programs in Kamloops and the surrounding area are giving people the reading, writing, math and computer skills needed to manage personal finances, join in community activities and help their children with their homework.

The Government of British Columbia is opening additional shelter beds in Kamloops to make sure people in need have access to safe and secure housing as the cooler weather arrives.

Drivers are advised to expect delays and winter conditions when travelling on sections of Highway 1 as heavy snowfall has hit the region.

The Cariboo Child Care Society’s outstanding leadership has won them a 2018 Child Care Award of Excellence from the B.C. government.                                                       

Effective at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, open burning will be allowed throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, including the use of fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels, burn cages, binary exploding targets and tiki torches.

The 2018 wildfire season has been one of the most challenging in British Columbia’s history, and some areas of the province have sustained considerable damage.
