The BC Wildfire Service and the Tk’emlups Forestry Development Corporation plan to conduct a six-hectare prescribed burn near Goose Lake, near Lac Le Jeune Road and about nine kilometres south of Kamloops.

The Government of British Columbia has contributed $500,000 to the Forestry Service Providers Compensation Fund to protect eligible forestry and silviculture contractors, and service providers, in the event of licensee insolvency.

Building on the economic benefits and jobs created by getting to yes on major projects and provincial investments in infrastructure, MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson Todd Stone and MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson Terry Lake announced immediate investments outlined in B.C.’s rural economic development strategy that will create jobs and economic opportunities in the Kamloops region.

Prescribed burning is planned in the Lundbom Lake area south of Merritt between April 10 and May 16, 2014.

Students at Thompson Rivers University will benefit from improved and upgraded campus facilities, thanks to $887,000 in capital funding that is part of government's investment in B.C.'s post-secondary infrastructure this year.

Kamloops Fire Centre officials have responded to 61 person-caused fires since April 1. Forestry officials have also received reports of oversized bonfires and graduation party fires.
