Due to severe wildfire damage in areas of the Thompson Okanagan and one area in the Kootenays, 15 motor-vehicle closures under the Motor Vehicle Prohibition Regulation of the Wildlife Act are in effect.

Wildfire activity is increasing in the B.C. Interior, and travel on some provincial highways is being affected.

Drivers can expect delays next week on Highway 1 in Kamloops as traffic controllers will be replaced at three intersections in order to provide more efficient signal timing through the busy corridor.

People in communities and First Nations in interior B.C. will benefit from new projects that will create local jobs, make housing more affordable and make community spaces and public buildings energy efficient and durable.

Drivers are advised the eastbound Highway 1 exit onto Highway 5 North in Kamloops will be closed for rehabilitation work from 8 p.m. Sunday, July 12, to 6:30 a.m. Monday, July 13.

Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Thursday, April 16, 2020, most open burning activities will be prohibited throughout British Columbia to reduce the likelihood of human-caused wildfires, although campfires will still be allowed.

Drivers are advised that heavy snowfall is expected for much of the southern Interior over the next 48 hours, causing challenging travel conditions on a busy pre-holiday weekend.
