Construction is underway on 40 new homes for Indigenous families, individuals and Elders in Langford through a partnership between the Province, M’akola Housing Society and the City of Langford.

The Westshore community has much to celebrate with the recent completion of the $11.8-million Dunsmuir Middle school seismic mitigation project and $4.2 million in new provincial funding to seismically upgrade Ruth King Elementary school. 

Thirty-six Aboriginal families are settling into their new affordable homes at 550 Goldstream Ave., a recently completed mixed-use development in Langford, which officially opened on National Aboriginal Day.

The governments of Canada and British Columbia, along with community partners, celebrated the construction progress of an affordable rental housing development in Langford, which will provide new homes for Aboriginal families and individuals.

As part of B.C. on the Move, the Province's new 10-year transportation plan, improvements will be made to reduce congestion and improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists on Highway 1 in Langford.

Shovels hit the ground and smiles were all around as Education Minister Peter Fassbender joined students, staff, parents, school district officials and local dignitaries for the first day of construction on the new $53.9-million Belmont Secondary school in West Shore today.
